Lets head for North Platte, Nebraska….

July 27th, 2010 Posted in UP's Bailey Yard

….And we might find the largest Railyard in the world.

I am of course talking about UP’s Bailey yard. A few weeks ago, i recieved the most interesting copy of Trains magasine i’ve ever seen.

After studying the blueprints inside the magasine, it was clear as sky what the next project would be.

Google earth, streetview and TransDEM Takes care of the needed Topography and Tiles.

As you might know, Nebraska is not the center of the earth, and dosent have the perfect coverage by Google earth, so the tiles is a bit blurry, but its way better than nothing at all.

So far i put in about 40% of the tracks, and fixed about 2% of the terrain. With 345 Track miles, 749 Turnouts it might take a while, but atleast it keeps me busy.

The route will contain every feature a railyard this size should, including Two fully working Humps

Heres a few progresshots:

    Lars,

I must disagree with you about Nebraska not being the center of the earth. With a yard like the Bailey Yard, how could it not be? I applaud your efforts to model this fantastic yard.

    Hey Lars,

I’m still hangin around too. I actually had started work on Bailey Yard myself about a year ago, but abandoned it due to my limited experience and my lack of tools (such as being able to place into the route Google tiles to make the work easier). I’m looking forward to seeing the yard upon completion (despite being a TS2009 user; subsequently no working hump kits available).

It’s a good thing you have a “little” bit of time to play around with Trainz Lars! Wow, the possibilities will be endless with this one. Good Luck with it and keep me ON the list!
